Matched Fundraising for Safe Space Hobart

Supporting People Facing Hardship and Homelessness

When you think of Tasmania, you might picture rugged coastlines, wild oceans, and crisp mountain air. But if you spend time walking the streets of Hobart, another picture is becoming harder to ignore. Tents tucked into corners of the city. People carrying their whole lives in a single backpack. The sharp ache of cold nights spent outside with nowhere safe to go. This is the reality for too many Tasmanians, and it is why we are raising funds for Safe Space Hobart.

Close your eyes and imagine trying to fall asleep on the ground. The cold creeps up through the concrete, numbing your fingers and toes. The air smells damp, mixed with smoke from nearby chimneys. Every car door slamming or set of footsteps makes you flinch, because you do not know if it means danger. You pull your bag close, because it holds everything you have left. There is no lock on a door to protect you, no warm bed to retreat to, no certainty about where tomorrow’s meal will come from.

By morning, your clothes are heavy with the smell of wet fabric. Your skin feels rough from the wind. You walk through the city hoping to find somewhere quiet, somewhere you will not be moved on, somewhere safe enough to rest. But safe spaces are few, and the looks you get from passers-by make you want to disappear.

Support Tasmanians Who Are Sleeping Rough

This is happening right here in Hobart, and it can happen to anyone. A rent increase, a sudden job loss, mortgage repayments that climb higher than your income, or an unexpected medical bill… All it takes is one or two events to turn a life upside down.

That is why we are fundraising for Safe Space Hobart, a program run by Hobart City Mission that provides something the streets cannot. A roof overhead. A warm place to rest. Support from people who listen and care. And a chance to rebuild life with dignity.

Our goal is to raise $2,000, and we will be matching every dollar donated to double the impact. Every $10 becomes $20. Every $50 becomes $100.

If you are visiting Tasmania, this is a simple way to give back to the community you have come to explore. Just as we invite you to connect with our landscapes and wildlife, we invite you to stand with the people who call this place home. Together we can support Safe Space Hobart and make sure fewer Tasmanians are left sleeping rough.

Every $1 you give becomes $2. Together, we can make a real difference.
